Databricks consulting · Washington, DC
Databricks consulting for Washington, DC companies
When an assessor asks where a figure in an agency-facing report came from and who could read it, the answer is scattered across SQL Server, Oracle and whatever was added later. Unity Catalog gives NIST 800-53 and FedRAMP-aligned controls one place to point at for lineage, grants and audit, and we migrate in stages so reporting keeps running. Around DC that's Dulles corridor contractors, downtown trade associations and biotech firms in Montgomery County.
Founded
2017, and still independent
Bench
115+ engineers, 80 Databricks-certified
Experience
Fifteen years average, per engineer
Serving
Washington, Arlington, Alexandria, Bethesda
The federal government and the contractors, associations and law firms arranged around it, a cybersecurity concentration in Northern Virginia, and a biotech corridor up the Maryland side answering to the same agencies. If your work touches any of that, the assessor will ask for the authorisation boundary and the decision trail, and the system has to be built with the answer.
TechFabric is a Databricks partner with an award-winning Databricks engineering team, 80 of them Databricks-certified, and a Temporal partner. Where a system reaches past the workspace we build on Azure, AWS and Google Cloud.
Databricks Community Genie-Powered App Challenge, September 2026. Second place worldwide, judged and announced by Databricks.
What databricks consulting covers
Migration off Snowflake, Synapse and Teradata
Run through TechFabric Airlift, with executable playbooks for twenty-seven source platforms, signed migration certificates, and a cutover you can reverse at two in the morning.
Unity Catalog governance
Catalogue and schema design, a grant model expressed through groups, row filters and column masks, and lineage that survives a refactor. The boundary your agents and Power BI inherit.
Lakeflow pipelines
Ingestion and Lakeflow jobs with schema evolution handled rather than hoped for, medallion boundaries drawn on purpose, and jobs that recover instead of restarting from zero.
Databricks Apps and agents
Applications that run inside the workspace under their own service principal, and agents on Unity Gateway that inherit catalogue permissions instead of routing around them.
Genie and AI/BI
Metric definitions agreed with the person who owns the number, and a benchmark suite Genie has to keep passing, so the answer holds up when finance checks it.
Cost that somebody can defend
Cluster policies, warehouse sizing, file layout and the queries that actually pay. Instrumented at build time rather than discovered on an invoice.
The authorisation boundary decides the architecture
In DC, nothing reaches an agency's users without an authority to operate. FedRAMP, run by GSA from 1800 F Street, NIST SP 800-53 and, for defence contractors along the Dulles corridor, CMMC all ask the same three things. Where is the boundary, what crosses it, and who approved the crossing? A contractor in Reston or Tysons can't deliver until an assessor has those answers in writing.
Most teams draw the boundary last, around whatever got built, and then spend months writing a system security plan that explains a diagram nobody chose. We draw it on day one, because a design that keeps the model endpoint, the vector index and the logs inside the boundary is far cheaper to authorise than one that sends a prompt to a service the package never mentions.
The data flow comes first, with every external service listed and marked by which side of the boundary it sits on. Then we map the 800-53 controls the platform can produce its own evidence for, such as AC-2 for accounts and AU-2 for event logging. The build starts after that, and the audit record is written by the same code that makes the change.
Clients we have done this for
The SmartCert study is for anyone whose assessor or members ask where a document went and who handled it on the way. Its system replaced emailed attachments with a traceable exchange of certificates and quality documents between manufacturers, distributors and their customers.
Supply chain
SmartCert
Aerospace distributors were scrapping good parts because the certificates proving what they were got lost in email attachments. With Aramid, our senior engineers built SmartCert on Azure and took it into production. A QR code on each package opens the documents for that exact shipment, and links to Epicor Prophet 21 and Dynamics 365 Business Central mean nobody retypes a certificate. Since launch, none have been lost.
How an engagement runs
01
Two weeks, fixed fee
A Databricks Health Check reads the workspace and returns a scorecard: compute cost, job reliability and Unity Catalog gaps, with what to fix first. You keep the document either way.
02
Scope you can defend
For a migration, the two-week Migration Readiness Sprint inventories the estate, agrees exclusions and hands you a wave plan before anyone picks a date.
03
Build in your workspace
The work runs in your workspace and your repository, with your engineers in it from the first week, so the pattern is one they can extend.
04
Hand over with the reasoning
A written record of what was decided and why, which the next platform lead almost never gets.
Two weeks, fixed fee, and a written plan whether or not you build it with us.
Tell an engineer what you want to build
A senior engineer reads it and replies within one business day, usually with the questions that decide the first two weeks.
Around Washington, DC
Databricks in Penn Quarter
Databricks' developer relations team chose the National Union Building in Penn Quarter for its October 2026 DevConnect evening, three short sessions on building pipelines and a reception. The Databricks DMV user group covers the District, Maryland and Virginia and plans to meet quarterly, and the World Tour stop in DC is pitched at government. Data Engineers DC and Power BI DC, both under the Data Community DC nonprofit, meet through the year.
A World Tour stop given over to government says who buys Databricks here. For an agency or a contractor, an assessor reads the lineage and the grants before anyone opens a dashboard, so both are settled before the first report moves. Power BI DC's place in that nonprofit is a reminder that many reports start in Microsoft tools, and they have to keep working while the platform underneath changes.

FAQ
Databricks consulting in Washington, DC: common questions
Do you work with Washington, DC companies?
Yes, and with companies across the United States. Arizona does not observe daylight saving, so we are two hours behind you from November to March and three hours behind from March to November. That leaves most of your afternoon overlapping our morning, which is usually enough.
Do you have an office in Washington, DC?
The office is in Gilbert, Arizona, with teams in Amsterdam, Dnipro and Hyderabad. Delivery is remote or hybrid, and we travel for discovery, workshops and the opening weeks of a build.
Can you build inside a FedRAMP or CMMC environment?
We build inside authorised boundaries and design so the evidence an assessor wants is produced by the platform: least privilege, an event trail on every change, grants that resolve at read time. The authorisation itself is yours and your assessor's, and we do not claim it on your behalf. What we do is make the package easy to assemble.
What makes you an award-winning Databricks engineering team?
In September 2026 Prove It, an app built by TechFabric engineer Ivan Vydrin, was named a winner in the Creativity & Originality track of the Databricks Community Genie-Powered App Challenge, placing second worldwide in a contest Databricks ran and judged. The announcement is on community.databricks.com and the code is public.
What level of Databricks partner are you?
TechFabric is a Databricks partner. We don't publish a tier, because tiers measure commercial relationship as much as engineering depth, and we would rather be judged on the bench and the work. Eighty of our engineers are certified, we run our own business on the stack, and the four accelerators we bring are open source.
Learn Databricks first, free
The engineers who do this work wrote a free manual for the platform, forty-three chapters from the account up, with a guided first hour on Free Edition. Most teams have somebody who needs it before anybody needs us.
How to learn Databricks
A path from zero to production: what to read, what to build, which certification is worth sitting, and in what order.
Getting started on Free Edition
From a free account to a governed table, a dashboard, a Genie answer and a small agent, in about an hour and at no cost.

AI consulting and development in Washington, DC
The agent your team piloted on agency data is stuck short of production, because nobody has time to show an assessor where its data goes.

Your new platform is late because the engineers who could build it are keeping the current one running, and it can't go live until an assessor sees where its data goes.
