Databricks consulting for Raleigh companies
LIMS, MES and CRO systems that never agreed leave the data team tracing results by hand while auditors keep asking about governance. We migrate them onto a Databricks lakehouse where Unity Catalog lineage and the audit system tables answer an inspection's questions directly. Research Triangle Park's drug makers are the strictest case, and a utility or a university lab has the same disagreement between systems.
Founded
2017, and still independent
Bench
115+ engineers, 80 Databricks-certified
Experience
Fifteen years average, per engineer
Serving
Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary
Pharmaceutical and biotech manufacturing around the research park, enterprise software in Cary and Durham, three research universities feeding both, and a clinical research industry between them. If you're in life sciences here, you buy AI under validation, and the system has to be one whose behaviour can be shown.
TechFabric is a Databricks partner with an award-winning Databricks engineering team, 80 of them Databricks-certified, and a Temporal partner. Where a system reaches past the workspace we build on Azure, AWS and Google Cloud.
Databricks Community Genie-Powered App Challenge, September 2026. Second place worldwide, judged and announced by Databricks.
What databricks consulting covers
Migration off Snowflake, Synapse and Teradata
Run through TechFabric Airlift, with executable playbooks for twenty-seven source platforms, signed migration certificates, and a cutover you can reverse at two in the morning.
Unity Catalog governance
Catalogue and schema design, a grant model expressed through groups, row filters and column masks, and lineage that survives a refactor. The boundary your agents and Power BI inherit.
Lakeflow pipelines
Ingestion and Lakeflow jobs with schema evolution handled rather than hoped for, medallion boundaries drawn on purpose, and jobs that recover instead of restarting from zero.
Databricks Apps and agents
Applications that run inside the workspace under their own service principal, and agents on Unity Gateway that inherit catalogue permissions instead of routing around them.
Genie and AI/BI
Metric definitions agreed with the person who owns the number, and a benchmark suite Genie has to keep passing, so the answer holds up when finance checks it.
Cost that somebody can defend
Cluster policies, warehouse sizing, file layout and the queries that actually pay. Instrumented at build time rather than discovered on an invoice.
Validation is a property of the system
Around Raleigh and Research Triangle Park, software sits inside regulated work, from batch records at the biologics plants in Holly Springs and Clayton to trial data at contract research organisations such as IQVIA in Durham. 21 CFR Part 11 asks for secure, time-stamped audit trails on those electronic records and signatures linked to the records they sign, and GxP wants any computerised system that touches them shown to work as intended before it's used.
Most teams treat validation as paperwork that follows the build, and pay for it twice when the quality group writes test scripts against a system never designed to produce evidence. We'd rather the platform produce it, with each audit event recorded by the code that makes the change, and an AI agent with no kept evaluation results shouldn't touch a GxP process.
The first two weeks go on intended use and risk, the order GAMP 5 starts from. We write down what the system is for, which functions touch a GxP record and how each one will be tested, then build the evaluation harness before the agent or pipeline it scores. Your quality group signs the plan before any code it covers is written.
Clients we have done this for
An attachment in an inbox can't show where it came from, which matters the moment an inspector asks for a document's history. SmartCert moved certificates and quality documents out of email into a traceable system shared by manufacturers, distributors and their customers.
Supply chain
SmartCert
Aerospace distributors were scrapping good parts because the certificates proving what they were got lost in email attachments. With Aramid, our senior engineers built SmartCert on Azure and took it into production. A QR code on each package opens the documents for that exact shipment, and links to Epicor Prophet 21 and Dynamics 365 Business Central mean nobody retypes a certificate. Since launch, none have been lost.
How an engagement runs
01
Two weeks, fixed fee
A Databricks Health Check reads the workspace and returns a scorecard: compute cost, job reliability and Unity Catalog gaps, with what to fix first. You keep the document either way.
02
Scope you can defend
For a migration, the two-week Migration Readiness Sprint inventories the estate, agrees exclusions and hands you a wave plan before anyone picks a date.
03
Build in your workspace
The work runs in your workspace and your repository, with your engineers in it from the first week, so the pattern is one they can extend.
04
Hand over with the reasoning
A written record of what was decided and why, which the next platform lead almost never gets.
Two weeks, fixed fee, and a written plan whether or not you build it with us.
Tell an engineer what you want to build
A senior engineer reads it and replies within one business day, usually with the questions that decide the first two weeks.
Around Raleigh
Where the Triangle trains its data people
Databricks for Agentic AI @Raleigh holds Databricks & Coffee on the first Saturday morning of most months at BoxYard RTP, the shipping-container food hall in Research Triangle Park. TriPASS, the Triangle SQL Server group, meets on Tuesday evenings and has Spark in Microsoft Fabric on its autumn list. NC State's Institute for Advanced Analytics has run its MS in Analytics since 2007, and every cohort works a practicum on a sponsor's real data.
For a drug maker or a contract research organisation in the park, sponsoring that practicum is a cheap test of whether batch records and trial data will join before anyone bills for finding out. It won't leave you a platform an inspector can walk through. That takes Unity Catalog lineage from each result back to the LIMS or MES record it came from, kept current long after the students have graduated.

FAQ
Databricks consulting in Raleigh: common questions
Do you work with Raleigh companies?
Yes, and with companies across the United States. Arizona does not observe daylight saving, so we are two hours behind you from November to March and three hours behind from March to November. That leaves most of your afternoon overlapping our morning, which is usually enough.
Do you have an office in Raleigh?
The office is in Gilbert, Arizona, with teams in Amsterdam, Dnipro and Hyderabad. Delivery is remote or hybrid, and we travel for discovery, workshops and the opening weeks of a build.
Can your pipelines and AI systems be validated under GxP?
That is how we build them. The audit trail is produced by the platform rather than reconstructed, the pipeline replays to an exact result, and every change to a model or a prompt carries the evaluation that scored it. Your quality team owns validation and we produce the evidence in the form they need.
What makes you an award-winning Databricks engineering team?
In September 2026 Prove It, an app built by TechFabric engineer Ivan Vydrin, was named a winner in the Creativity & Originality track of the Databricks Community Genie-Powered App Challenge, placing second worldwide in a contest Databricks ran and judged. The announcement is on community.databricks.com and the code is public.
What level of Databricks partner are you?
TechFabric is a Databricks partner. We don't publish a tier, because tiers measure commercial relationship as much as engineering depth, and we would rather be judged on the bench and the work. Eighty of our engineers are certified, we run our own business on the stack, and the four accelerators we bring are open source.
Learn Databricks first, free
The engineers who do this work wrote a free manual for the platform, forty-three chapters from the account up, with a guided first hour on Free Edition. Most teams have somebody who needs it before anybody needs us.
How to learn Databricks
A path from zero to production: what to read, what to build, which certification is worth sitting, and in what order.
Getting started on Free Edition
From a free account to a governed table, a dashboard, a Genie answer and a small agent, in about an hour and at no cost.
