Business Central with Insight Works, on the warehouse floor and the shop floor

TechFabric is an Insight Works partner and a Microsoft Solutions Partner. We implement Dynamics 365 Business Central with Warehouse Insight, Shop Floor Insight, License Plating and Dynamic Ship, and we support the warehouse and production transactions that run through them, on site across the Phoenix metro and remotely everywhere else.

Cyclic Materials engaged us for exactly that at their Mesa, Arizona facility.

Why an app, and not a customisation

Every warehouse that outgrows the base product asks for the same four things. Scan instead of type, put mixed items on one pallet, capture production time where it happens, and print a carrier label without leaving the order.

On Dynamics NAV those were C/AL customisations, and each upgrade meant paying to carry them forward. Insight Works sells them as Business Central apps that survive the monthly update, and a partner who has built the customised version knows exactly which settings matter.

  • Warehouse Insight, Shop Floor Insight, License Plating and Dynamic Ship, installed and configured against your locations and bins
  • Advanced Inventory Count and Quality Inspector where cycle counts and inspections are part of the process
  • Graphical Scheduler or MxAPS when production planning is the constraint rather than the floor
  • The base Business Central setup underneath, because an app cannot fix a location structure that was never designed

On-site support when production starts

A go-live is the moment the questions start, and a warehouse does not stop to file a ticket. Cyclic Materials, which recovers rare earths from end-of-life products, runs Business Central with Insight Works at its Mesa, Arizona facility and found this site in August 2026 looking for on-site help with warehousing and production transactions as production ramped.

Our office in Gilbert is next door to Mesa, so the engineer is on the floor when the pick is wrong rather than on a call the next morning.

  • An engineer on site through the first weeks of production, then on a schedule that matches the shift pattern
  • Warehouse and production transactions reviewed as they post, so a mis-scan is corrected the same day
  • Handheld and printer setup done in the building, with the people who use them
  • Remote support at the same standard for sites outside Arizona

Moving off Dynamics NAV

Microsoft's extended support for Dynamics NAV 2018 ends on 12 January 2028, and NAV 2018 was the last version. A NAV estate with a customised warehouse module is the hardest kind to move, because the C/AL code that made the floor work has to become AL extensions or be replaced.

Replacing it with Insight Works apps is usually cheaper than rewriting it, and it is the decision that decides the size of the project.

  • An inventory of every customised object, with a verdict per object: an app replaces it, an extension rewrites it, or it is not needed
  • Data migrated and reconciled in rehearsals, with open documents and balances agreed before the freeze
  • A cutover weekend with a rollback somebody has read, and hypercare staffed by the people who built it
  • The article at /blog/dynamics-nav-support-ends-in-january-2028 covers what the move actually involves

Where Funko fits

The warehouse system we built for Funko needed license plating and the ERP did not have it, so we built it. That work is at /case-studies/funko and it doubled throughput efficiency. Insight Works now sells License Plating as an app, and we would rather configure theirs than rebuild ours, which is what a partner is for.

  • Bin, zone and put-away design against the physical floor, which an app inherits rather than fixes
  • Directed pick and put-away where volume warrants it, simpler flows where it does not
  • Cycle counting the operations team will actually run
  • Throughput measured on posted transactions, not on a feeling

What we implement

Warehouse Insight

Handheld picking, put-away, movements and counts against Business Central's own warehouse documents, so the scan on the floor and the posting in the ledger are the same event.

Shop Floor Insight

Production time and quantities captured by barcode at the work centre instead of on a clipboard, with the output posted to the production order it belongs to.

License Plating

A pallet of mixed items becomes one identifier and one scan. We built this by hand for Funko before Insight Works sold it as an app, which is why we know where it bites.

Dynamic Ship

Carrier rates, labels and tracking from inside the sales order, so shipping stops being a second system somebody re-keys into.

What we build

  • Business Central and the Insight Works apps implemented by one team, so nobody argues about whose configuration is wrong
  • Warehouse and production transactions supported on site in the Phoenix metro, from an office twenty minutes away
  • NAV estates moved to Business Central with the floor customisations replaced by apps rather than rewritten
  • Handheld paths tested by the people who will scan with them, before go-live and again after
  • Power BI on the posted record, so the throughput number is the ERP's number

How this is delivered

Forward-deployed teams

Product, design and engineering people who sit inside your business, find the real problem, and ship it.

FAQ

Questions we get asked

Is TechFabric an Insight Works partner?

Yes. TechFabric is an Insight Works partner and a Microsoft Solutions Partner with designations in Data & AI, Digital & App Innovation, and Infrastructure. We implement Warehouse Insight, Shop Floor Insight, License Plating and Dynamic Ship on Dynamics 365 Business Central, and we support the warehouse and production transactions that run through them.

Which Insight Works apps do you implement?

Warehouse Insight for handheld picking, put-away, movements and counts. Shop Floor Insight for production time and quantities captured by barcode. License Plating for mixed pallets under one scan. Dynamic Ship for carrier rates, labels and tracking from the order. Advanced Inventory Count, Quality Inspector, Graphical Scheduler and MxAPS where the process calls for them.

Do you support Business Central and Insight Works on site in Arizona?

Yes. The office is at 1530 E Williams Field Rd, Ste 201, Gilbert, AZ 85295, which borders Mesa and is twenty minutes from Tempe and Chandler. Cyclic Materials engaged us for on-site support of warehousing and production transactions at their Mesa facility after finding this site in August 2026. Outside Arizona the support is remote, at the same standard.

We're on Dynamics NAV. What does moving to Business Central involve?

Extended support for NAV 2018 ends on 12 January 2028. The work is deciding what happens to each customised object, migrating and reconciling the data in rehearsals, and a cutover weekend with a rollback.

Where the customisations are on the warehouse floor, Insight Works apps usually replace them for less than a rewrite. The full shape is in the article linked on this page.

Does Insight Works work with Dynamics NAV?

Their current catalogue is built for Dynamics 365 Business Central, and that is what we implement. If you're still on NAV, the honest sequence is the move to Business Central first, with the apps chosen as part of that plan rather than bolted on afterwards.

How do we get started?

A two-to-three-week assessment of the estate, ending in a written recommendation you can act on. If production is already running and the problem is today's transactions, we will start with the support and do the assessment alongside it.

How can we help?

Tell us what the floor runs on today and where the scans go wrong, and we will tell you what fixing it involves.
