Every software change has to explain itself
Two rulebooks share Minneapolis. Medical Alley's device makers answer to the FDA, whose quality system rule has incorporated ISO 13485 since the QMSR took effect on 2 February 2026. The retailers headquartered on Nicollet Mall and in Richfield answer to PCI DSS for every card they take. On either side, a change to software has to be explainable after the fact.
The FDA's guidance on predetermined change control plans lets a device maker agree in advance how an AI model may change after clearance. We think retail should borrow the idea. Write down which model changes ship on an eval score alone and which need sign-off before the first release, and the holiday freeze stops being a guess about what's safe to touch.
That plan is the first thing we deliver. We list every model and rule the system will run, sort each kind of change into automatic or approved, and tie each to the eval or audit record that proves it. For a device team the result maps onto design controls, and for a retailer it becomes the change calendar around peak.

Over in St Paul, ruby.mn meets on the third Tuesday of the month at Lab651 on Vandalia Street. Minnebar, Minnestar's free unconference first held in 2006, returns on 1 May 2027 with sessions proposed and run by whoever turns up.
Minnebar's format is unusually useful to a buyer. Anyone can propose a session, so a company weighing a retail platform that must survive the holiday peak, or a Medical Alley system it'll still need to change in five years, can put the question to the room and hear practitioners argue it out with no sales call attached. Who maintains the system after launch deserves a session of its own.
