Most Azure estates were not designed. They accumulated: a subscription per project, a Data Factory somebody built in a week, a Dynamics tenant integrated by whoever was available. The work is to make what is there governable and cheaper to run, and to build the next thing on it without repeating the pattern.

What the assessment covers

  • Every subscription, resource group and who pays for it, because the estate usually has more of each than anyone can name
  • Identity and network: what Entra ID actually governs, and where a service principal has more than it needs
  • The data estate on Azure SQL, Synapse and Data Factory, and which of it belongs on Databricks instead
  • The Dynamics 365 and Power Platform surface, and the integrations that hold it to the rest of the estate
  • Reserved capacity and licensing that changes price on the other side of a move
  • What is not moving, written down so it can be signed

What we build on Azure

  • A landing zone with subscriptions, identity, network and policy defined as code, so the second environment costs a fraction of the first
  • Migration in reversible waves against an agreed inventory, with the rollback position built before the wave runs
  • Applications on App Service, Container Apps and AKS, chosen per workload rather than as a programme-wide position
  • The data layer: Azure SQL where it belongs, Databricks on Azure where the workload has outgrown it, Data Factory replaced or kept on evidence
  • Dynamics 365 Business Central and CRM integrated with the estate through APIs and Power Automate, with the audit trail as a property of the platform
  • Cost measured against the old estate monthly, so the business case survives contact with the bill

FAQ

Azure consulting: common questions

What does your Microsoft partnership actually cover?

TechFabric is a Microsoft Solutions Partner, with designations in Data & AI, Digital & App Innovation, and Infrastructure. Those are the three that matter for Azure work: the data platform, the applications on it and the estate underneath. The designations are enrolled and current, and we will show you the Partner Center record if it helps procurement.

Do you migrate onto Azure or only build on it?

Both. A migration runs against an agreed inventory in reversible waves, which is the discipline on the cloud migration page, and most of our Azure engagements carry on into the platform work afterwards: the landing zone, the data layer and the applications the move was for.

Should our data warehouse be on Azure SQL, Synapse or Databricks?

It depends on the workload, and we will say which. Transactional systems and reporting that fits in one database belong on Azure SQL. Analytical estates that have outgrown it, or that need governed lineage and machine learning, belong on Databricks on Azure, and that is where our deepest work is. We do not move a workload to prove a point.

Can you work inside our existing Azure team?

That is the usual shape. Our engineers embed alongside yours, in your subscriptions and your repos, and the aim is that your team runs the estate with us mostly watching by the end. Where you would rather we took the whole thing, we will.
