# Databricks consulting in New York, NY

> New York runs on finance, from the banks and insurers answering to the state's Department of Financial Services to the fintechs that sell to them, with media, advertising and real estate close behind. Whatever you're building here, someone will eventually ask your system to explain what it did, whether that's an examiner, a client's auditor or a tenant's lawyer.

## Why New York work is our work

The estates here are Teradata, SQL Server and a Snowflake layer bought in the last five years, all feeding regulatory reporting that has to reconstruct who saw what. Unity Catalog gives Part 500 and SOX one answer from the audit and lineage system tables, and a migration through Airlift arrives with signed certificates an examiner can read.

## Work a buyer here would recognise

The LOSExpress rebuild for SWBC, a lending platform for credit unions, covered the user experience, the design system and the front-end architecture. Orders processed doubled and loan officers spent half the time on each order, which is what a lender or servicer wants to see before replacing a system its staff use all day.

## The examiner arrives eventually

By 15 April each year, a bank or insurer regulated by New York's Department of Financial Services files either a certification of compliance with Part 500, its cybersecurity rule, or an acknowledgment of where it fell short, signed by its top executive and CISO. Section 500.6 asks for records that can reconstruct material financial transactions, and a public company answers to SOX as well. Both ask a system the same question: who changed what, when, and on whose authority.

## Questions

### Can Databricks use our New York fleet's TLC trip records?

Yes, and the city's side of that data already comes in a friendly shape. The Taxi and Limousine Commission publishes yellow taxi, green taxi and for-hire trip records monthly as Parquet files, typically with a two-month delay, and the for-hire records are built from the trip submissions bases make.

We'd land your own dispatch and trip data daily and load the TLC's monthly files beside it with Auto Loader, both registered in Unity Catalog. Your analysts could then compare your trips by pickup zone with the market's, and check that what your base submitted matches what your dispatch system recorded.

### Which Unity Catalog grants come first for a New York hospital's EHR data?

One grant per role, set before any row lands. The ingestion pipeline's service principal alone can write to the landing schema. Analyst groups read through a column mask on protected health information, researchers get select on de-identified views only, and clinicians' dashboards read curated tables, never the raw extract.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics counted about 2.36 million education and health services jobs in the New York metro in September 2026 (preliminary). For a hospital adding feeds over the years, we'd tag each EHR table by source, so a new feed picks up the masks and grants its tag calls for.

### Can Databricks load NYC Open Data beside our own tables?

Yes. The city's Open Data Law requires data created by agencies to be open by default, so it's published for anyone to load.

The 311 Service Requests dataset and the Department of Buildings' job filings are two a New York property manager would want. We'd ingest the ones you need on a schedule with Lakeflow, record each source and refresh date in Unity Catalog, and join them to your data. A property manager could then see 311 complaints next to its own work orders, with lineage showing which figure came from the city.

### Can you satisfy a NYDFS Part 500 review?

We build the evidence the review asks for as a property of the platform rather than as a reporting exercise. Every domain change passes one pipeline, the event that explains it is written in the same transaction, and the trail reconstructs rather than approximates. What we do not do is certify you: your auditor does that, and our job is to make the answer easy to produce.

## What databricks consulting covers

### Migration off Snowflake, Synapse and Teradata

Run through TechFabric Airlift, with executable playbooks for twenty-seven source platforms, signed migration certificates, and a cutover you can reverse at two in the morning.

### Unity Catalog governance

Catalogue and schema design, a grant model expressed through groups, row filters and column masks, and lineage that survives a refactor. The boundary your agents and Power BI inherit.

### Lakeflow pipelines

Ingestion and Lakeflow jobs with schema evolution handled rather than hoped for, medallion boundaries drawn on purpose, and jobs that recover instead of restarting from zero.

### Databricks Apps and agents

Applications that run inside the workspace under their own service principal, and agents on Unity Gateway that inherit catalogue permissions instead of routing around them.

### Genie and AI/BI

Metric definitions agreed with the person who owns the number, and a benchmark suite Genie has to keep passing, so the answer holds up when finance checks it.

### Cost that somebody can defend

Cluster policies, warehouse sizing, file layout and the queries that actually pay. Instrumented at build time rather than discovered on an invoice.

## Working with us from Arizona

Arizona does not observe daylight saving, so we are two hours behind you from November to March and three hours behind from March to November. That leaves most of your afternoon overlapping our morning, which is usually enough.

Most delivery is remote or hybrid. We travel for discovery, workshops and the opening weeks of a build.
