# Databricks consulting in Detroit, MI

> If you run a parts supplier in Troy or Auburn Hills, a captive finance arm downtown or a mobility startup at Michigan Central in Corktown, your data estate was probably designed for a different decade and your AI question arrives on top of it. Automotive finance is where most of our published work started, so that inheritance is familiar ground.

## Why Detroit work is our work

A migration off an on-premises warehouse that stalled halfway leaves two copies of every table and an auditor asking which one is true. We move it onto Databricks through Airlift, then put Unity Catalog governance on the result before anyone argues about pipelines. Detroit's suppliers selling into German OEMs answer to TISAX on top of that, and a Midtown hospital group or a lender downtown has an auditor of its own.

## Work a buyer here would recognise

Auto lenders and captive finance arms run processes that can't stop halfway, and repossession is a legally sensitive one. This study shows that process rebuilt on Temporal, so every step is recoverable and the full history of what happened is there afterwards.

## A supplier is audited against contracts it didn't write

Detroit's carmakers sit within a short drive of each other, GM downtown, Ford in Dearborn and Stellantis in Auburn Hills, and the suppliers in Troy, Southfield and Livonia sell to all three and often to the German makers too. Volkswagen, BMW and Mercedes-Benz ask for a TISAX assessment before they share prototype or project data, so a tier-two supplier is audited against a standard it never negotiated.

## Questions

### Could a Detroit casino run its cash reporting and player data on Databricks?

Yes, and the volume makes the case. Detroit's three commercial casinos reported $103.55 million in aggregate revenue for September 2026, according to the Michigan Gaming Control Board.

Federal rules add a reporting job on top. Under the Bank Secrecy Act rules a casino reports any cash transaction over $10,000, and cash in or out by the same player is added up across the gaming day. We'd stream cage, table and slot events into Delta tables keyed on player and gaming day, so the total is a query compliance can rerun when an examiner asks how it was reached.

### What would a Detroit parts plant put on Databricks first?

Its quality data. The Bureau of Labor Statistics counted 235,100 manufacturing jobs in metro Detroit in September 2026 (preliminary), and we'd expect a supplier plant to keep inspection results and warranty returns in separate systems.

We'd bring them together in Delta tables keyed on part number and lot, so a warranty claim from the field traces back to the shift and machine that made the part. That trace is what an OEM quality engineer asks for on a containment call, and with the tables in place it's ready while the call is still going.

### Can Databricks help a Detroit auto lender or mortgage company with reporting?

Yes. The Bureau of Labor Statistics counted 131,400 financial activities jobs in metro Detroit in September 2026 (preliminary). For a lender we'd expect reporting to start from the servicing platform's nightly files.

We'd load those files into Delta tables with their history kept, so delinquency and roll-rate reports run from one copy of the loan data. Unity Catalog lineage shows which source table fed each report, and a snapshot taken at every month-end lets your finance team rerun a past report exactly as it was filed.

### Can you meet OEM cybersecurity requirements as a supplier?

We build to what those clauses require, which is controlled access, a demonstrable change history and a software supply chain you can account for. Automotive finance and mobility data is the largest concentration in our published work, so the requirements are familiar rather than novel.

## What databricks consulting covers

### Migration off Snowflake, Synapse and Teradata

Run through TechFabric Airlift, with executable playbooks for twenty-seven source platforms, signed migration certificates, and a cutover you can reverse at two in the morning.

### Unity Catalog governance

Catalogue and schema design, a grant model expressed through groups, row filters and column masks, and lineage that survives a refactor. The boundary your agents and Power BI inherit.

### Lakeflow pipelines

Ingestion and Lakeflow jobs with schema evolution handled rather than hoped for, medallion boundaries drawn on purpose, and jobs that recover instead of restarting from zero.

### Databricks Apps and agents

Applications that run inside the workspace under their own service principal, and agents on Unity Gateway that inherit catalogue permissions instead of routing around them.

### Genie and AI/BI

Metric definitions agreed with the person who owns the number, and a benchmark suite Genie has to keep passing, so the answer holds up when finance checks it.

### Cost that somebody can defend

Cluster policies, warehouse sizing, file layout and the queries that actually pay. Instrumented at build time rather than discovered on an invoice.

## Working with us from Arizona

Arizona does not observe daylight saving, so we are two hours behind you from November to March and three hours behind from March to November. That leaves most of your afternoon overlapping our morning, which is usually enough.

Most delivery is remote or hybrid. We travel for discovery, workshops and the opening weeks of a build.
