# Databricks consulting in Chicago, IL

> Derivatives and futures trading on LaSalle Street and Wacker Drive, heavy manufacturing across the south suburbs and northwest Indiana, and the rail and intermodal yards around Joliet that connect both to everywhere else. If your company sits where regulated finance meets physical logistics, and in Chicago many do, every automated action has a clock and a counterparty.

## Why Chicago work is our work

Month-end reconciliation that runs against a copy of the data instead of the source is the warehouse problem most finance teams share. Delta time travel and Unity Catalog lineage make the reconciled view reproducible, for CFTC and SEC recordkeeping and a plain close alike, and a migration off Teradata or Snowflake brings operational data onto the same platform. Chicago's trading firms made that urgent, and a law firm or a food company here reconciles too.

## Work a buyer here would recognise

If your orders, customers and invoices live in separate systems that have to agree, this is the study to read. AmTab's orders reach Business Central from the store without anyone re-keying them, and Power Automate keeps the store, the CRM and the ERP holding the same records.

## Every trade has to reconcile

In Chicago, CME Group runs its futures exchanges from Wacker Drive, Cboe sits a few blocks away on Van Buren, and the trading firms around the old Board of Trade building on LaSalle reconcile every day. CFTC Rule 1.31 keeps their records for five years, and SEC Rule 17a-4 holds broker-dealers to the same discipline, so a position that can't be rebuilt from its history is a finding.

## Questions

### Can Databricks keep the model records a Chicago insurer owes Illinois examiners?

It can hold most of it. The Illinois Department of Insurance's Company Bulletin 2024-08 expects insurers to keep a written program for their AI systems, and it lists what the Department may ask for in an examination, including data governance practices covering lineage, quality and bias analysis.

For a carrier we'd register each pricing or claims model in Unity Catalog with the tables it was trained on, so lineage shows which data built which version, and keep evaluation results by group in tables beside it. The written program and the sign-offs stay with your actuaries and compliance team, since a platform can't approve a model for you.

### Can a Chicago hospital group put EHR and claims data on Databricks?

Yes, as long as the governance is in place before the first query. The Bureau of Labor Statistics counted 805,600 education and health services jobs in the Chicago metro in September 2026 (preliminary), close to one job in six across the region.

We'd land the EHR extracts and claims feeds in Unity Catalog with patient identifiers tagged on arrival, so row filters and column masks apply before an analyst runs a query. The first model we'd build is one finance already wants, such as denied claims by payer, because it proves the governance on a real question.

### We're a Chicago food manufacturer. What would Databricks do with our plant data?

It would tie every batch to the line and the ingredient lot behind it. The Chicago Council on Global Affairs puts the area's food innovation and manufacturing at an estimated $10.4 billion in nominal GDP, more than any other US metro.

We'd expect plant data to sit in a historian, the ERP and the quality lab's spreadsheets. We'd stream line sensor readings into Delta tables beside batch records and lab results, keyed on lot, so a yield drop or an off-spec batch traces back to its source. The same lot key answers a recall question far faster than a search through binders.

### Can the event log serve as our reconciliation source?

That is what it is for. The event log is authoritative and read models derive from it, so a projection can be rebuilt by replay rather than reconciled by hand. In a business where reconciliation is a daily function that is the difference between an hour and a week.

## What databricks consulting covers

### Migration off Snowflake, Synapse and Teradata

Run through TechFabric Airlift, with executable playbooks for twenty-seven source platforms, signed migration certificates, and a cutover you can reverse at two in the morning.

### Unity Catalog governance

Catalogue and schema design, a grant model expressed through groups, row filters and column masks, and lineage that survives a refactor. The boundary your agents and Power BI inherit.

### Lakeflow pipelines

Ingestion and Lakeflow jobs with schema evolution handled rather than hoped for, medallion boundaries drawn on purpose, and jobs that recover instead of restarting from zero.

### Databricks Apps and agents

Applications that run inside the workspace under their own service principal, and agents on Unity Gateway that inherit catalogue permissions instead of routing around them.

### Genie and AI/BI

Metric definitions agreed with the person who owns the number, and a benchmark suite Genie has to keep passing, so the answer holds up when finance checks it.

### Cost that somebody can defend

Cluster policies, warehouse sizing, file layout and the queries that actually pay. Instrumented at build time rather than discovered on an invoice.

## Working with us from Arizona

Arizona does not observe daylight saving, so we are one hour behind you from November to March and two hours behind from March to November. A morning standup on your clock is still early afternoon on ours.

Most delivery is remote or hybrid. We travel for discovery, workshops and the opening weeks of a build.
